Before you pop that pill…: the most common drugs—from aspirin to estrogen—may be sabotaging your healthy diet. Here's what to do about
From Natural Health, 12/1/01 by Chris Meletis

IF YOU'RE TAKING MEDICATION, YOU'VE probably seen a list of side effects on the packaging. But one important effect is almost always missing: nutrient depletion. The longer you take many common drugs, the more you may be undermining your health. In my nine years of being a naturopathic physician, I've studied which drugs deplete which nutrients. The following chart shows my findings and offers simple dietary and supplement solutions. (If you take prescriptions, it's important to determine the right regimen with your physician.)

Chris Meletis, N.D., is the dean of naturopathic medicine at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Ore. He is author of The Instant Guide to Drug-Herb Interactions (DK Publishing, 2001).
