Bristol-Myers Squibb has launched Glucophage XR (metformin HCl) extended-release tablets for use as initial drug therapy in Type 2 diabetes. Glucophage XR is also approved for use in combination therapy with sulfonylureas or insulin. Dosage is once daily.
