Xylazine

Xylazine is a drug that is used for sedation, anesthesia, muscle relaxation, and analgesia. An analogue of clonidine, it is an agonist at the α2 class of adrenergic receptor. As with other α2 agonists, adverse effects include bradycardia, conduction distrubances, and myocardial depression. Yohimbine (Yobine) can be used to reverse xylazine effects. In the laboratory setting, xylazine is often used in combination with ketamine.

Oral forms of tetracycline and doxycycline are effective in producing pleurodesis
Purpose: We investigated whether oral tetracyclines could produce an efficient and safe pleurodesis as does parenteral doxycycline, which is currently ...
Pneumothorax-associated pleural eosinophilia in mice is interleukin-5 but not interleukin-13 dependent
Study objectives: To establish a murine model of pneumothorax-associated pleural eosinophilia and to examine the role of interleukin (IL)-5 and IL-13 ...
Effects of spontaneous breathing during airway pressure release ventilation on respiratory work and muscle blood flow in experimental lung injury
Study objectives: To evaluate the effects of spontaneous breathing at ambient airway pressure (Paw) and during airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) ...
Effect of [beta]-blockers on cardiac function and calcium handling protein in postinfarction heart failure rats
Objectives: The normal expression of [Ca.sup.2+]-handling protein is critical for efficient myocardial function. The present study was designed to test ...
Pleurodesis is inhibited by anti-vascular endothelial growth factor antibody
Study objectives: The intrapleural injection of transforming growth factor (TGF)-[[beta].sub.2] produces pleurodesis in rabbits associated with large ...
Dietary Restriction Compromises Resistance to Gut Ischemia-Reperfusion, Despite Reduction in Circulating Leukocyte Activation/Discussant/Author's Response
ABSTRACT. Background: Gut ischemia-reperfusion (gut I/R) accompanying severe surgical insults leads to neutrophilmediated injury and is regarded as a triggering event in early multiple-organ failure.
Ultrastructural changes in the circumventricular organs after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage
Objectives: Circumventricular organs (CVOs) are fine, periventricular, neurotransmitter-rich structures that are devoid of a blood-brain barrier and are ...
Intrapleural low-dose silver nitrate elicits more pleural inflammation and less systemic inflammation than low-dose talc
Study objectives: Several systemic effects have been described after talc pleurodesis. The aim of this study was to assess the systemic response induced ...
