DOCUMENTARY Cutting Edge (9pm C4)
In normal circumstances, inviting an attractive younger woman into the family home to spend quality time with your family would be asking for trouble. But it's something thousands of families do each year when they hire a live-in au pair, and this thorough documentary examines the sometimes messy consequences for three households. The saddest story concerns Alistair, an emotionally stunted forces man who left his wife and three kids in order to marry the Swedish au pair - who he also left (with a baby) after a mere three months of marriage. Another cautionary tale centres on how Alice (above, with Simon) dealt his affair with a Polish au pair.
DRAMA The Long Firm (9pm BBC2)
The fine adaptation of Jake Arnottt's novel goes out on a high as star-struck prison sociology lecturer Lenny (Shaun Dingwall, above) finds himself compromised when Harry Starks, his hero and most able pupil, escapes from stir.
MEDICINE Medical Mysteries (10.35pm BBC1)
An engaging series analysing the scientific basis of diseases that have been featured in Hollywood movies concludes with a look at Encephalitis lethargica, a condition explored in Awakenings - a film inspired by Dr Oliver Sacks's (above) experiences.
