Chloroxylenol

Chloroxylenol (4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol) is a chemical compound with the formula C8H9ClO and CAS number 88-04-0. It is commonly used in antibacterial soaps such as Dettol; in agar patch studies, it has been found to kill a wide variety of microbes, including bacteria, fungi, and the superbug MRSA, within 15 seconds. Its antibacterial action is due to disruption of cell membrane potentials, blocking production of adenosine triphosphate (effectively starving the cells). more...

Solvent-free hand scrub
From Paperboard Packaging, 10/1/04

Flexo Concepts' Ink Scrub hand cleaner lifts deeply embedded printer's ink, stains, paints, petroleum-based soils, and glue fast, the company says. Ink Scrub contains no solvents and uses soft polymeric scrubbers and a special blend of detergents. It contains chloroxylenol, an antiseptic that destroys microorganisms and reduces the risk of infections. Flexo Concepts' Graphix[TM] multilayer composite blade with specialty fillers for abrasion resistance is now available from the company or its resellers network. Exceptional stiffness and a thin wiping tip deliver high quality metering on anilox rolls with high line counts, the company says. According to the company, early testing shows that Graphix will outperform steel in high-speed, high-abrasion applications.
