LIMA Doctors in Peru have separated the fused legs of a 13-month- old girl with Mermaid syndrome, or sirenomelia. Milagros Cerron's legs were trapped in tissue and fat down to her heels. Her feet were splayed in a 'V,' completing the look of a mermaid's tail. The syndrome often kills sufferers within hours of birth. 'We have independent movement in her knees, the surgery was a success,' said Dr Luis Rubio.
