The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA), in conjunction with its pneumatic manufacturer members, has launched an online educational program, Fundamentals of Pneumatics, designed to introduce the basics of pneumatics technology to students, industry novices and others wanting to learn about basic pneumatic principles. The program is available at NFPA's website: www.nfpa.com, click on "Education." Development of this program was facilitated by the Festo Corp., with help from Parker Hannifin Corp. and Bosch Rexroth Corp. It was funded by NFPA with unanimous support from members of its Pneumatics Counsel and Education Committee. Fundamentals of Pneumatics is available at no charge to any internet user, Mac or PC, with the proper browser plugins. The software will check the user's system to verify the existence of the necessary plugins, and if not installed, will download the proper plugins. The program utilizes video, animations, quiz questions and text to deliver instruction to the user throughout a number of different lessens. Full motion video is used to illustrate the application of pneumatics in real-world situations, as well as to show the internal workings of pneumatic system components.
