Escape from Slavery: The True Story of My Ten Years in Captivity—and My Journey to Freedom in America - Top Shelf - Brief Article - Book Review
From Ebony, 11/1/03

ESCAPE FROM SLAVERY: THE TRUE STORY OF MY TEN YEARS IN CAPTIVITY--AND MY JOURNEY TO FREEDOM IN AMERICA. (St. Martin's Press, $24.95) by Francis Bok with Edward Tivnan is a gripping story of terror and triumph. Bok is only 23 years old and has spent nearly half of his life in slavery. Kidnapped at age 7 by extremists in his native Sudan, Bok tells the extraordinary story of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his captors, his many failed attempts to break away, and his harrowing journey to Egypt and then to America following his eventual escape. Now living in Boston, Bok was the first escaped slave to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in hearings on Sudan. With his story, Bok has produced an important document on the plight of millions of people being held as slaves today.
