Janssen Pharmaceutica is recalling five lots of Duragesic (fentanyl transdermal system) 75-[mu]/hr patches.
The affected lot numbers are 0327192, 0327193, 0327294, 0327295, and 0330362.
The patches have the potential for a leak in the product seal, the company announced.
If the medication leaks, there may not be adequate medicine in the patch, leading to withdrawal symptoms and inadequate pain relief.
Skin exposure to leaked medication may cause a higher-than-intended amount to be absorbed, resulting in nausea, sedation, drowsiness, or potentially life-threatening complications.
Patients wearing a patch with one of these lot numbers should remove the patch using gloves or a tissue and rinse their hands in water--do not use soap or rub excessively. Fold the patch in half and flush it down the toilet. Apply a patch from a new carton.
Patients with remaining patches should contact their physician or pharmacy to obtain a new supply. Patches from other lots are not affected.
