* Floramite SC (bifenazate) miticide previously labeled for control of mite pests on ornamental plants can be used on greenhouse-grown tomatoes on varieties greater than 1 inch in diameter when mature. Floramite SC is a selective, long-lasting miticide with novel chemistry and an unique mode of action. It provides knockdown of spider mites in all life stages in three days and maintains residual control for up to 28 days.
* Rimon (novaluron), a broad-spectrum potato insecticide with a unique mode of action, will help potato growers improve control of juvenile populations of Colorado potato beetle and other insect pests and help manage insect resistance. Rimon offers a mode of action that interferes with chitin development. Applied when insect pests are in the larval or nymph stages of development, Rimon prevents immature Colorado potato beetles, beet army worms, loopers, potato tuber moths, and whiteflies from reaching the next growth stage.

Apyrethroid, Fanfare is used to control a broad spectrum of foliar and soilborne insects and mites. It is registered in all states except California and Arizona.

* Actara and Platinum (thiamethoxam) from Syngenta Crop Protection received approval for new crop uses. Both the Actara and Platinum labels now include the following vegetable crops: carrots, radishes, and strawberries.
* Cruiser (thiamethoxam) seed treatment insecticide is now registered to protect pea and dry bean crops from a broad spectrum of early season sucking and chewing pests. These restrictions join existing labels for garden beans and sweet corn in the large-seeded vegetable crop group.
* Proclaim (emamectin benzoate) from Syngenta Crop Protection received an expanded label in California for worm control in vegetables. The label adds fruiting vegetables, leafy vegetables, and leafy brassica (cole) crops, plus aerial application. A total of 48 states are on the revised label.

* Florida vegetable growers now have a new insect growth regulator (IGR) to combat whiteflies thanks to a supplemental label granted in 2004 for Knack IGR (pyriproxyfen). Marketed by Valent U.S.A. Corp., Knack can be used on brassica leafy vegetables, cucurbits, okra, and other fruiting vegetables to control silverleal whiteflies.
* Zeal (etoxazole) miticide received EPA registration for use on strawberries and other crops during 2004 and has also been registered for use in California and New York. The product provides control of spider mites and red mites for more than six weeks. Zeal's active ingredient has a unique mode of action. A molting inhibitor, Zeal stops egg, larva, and nymph development on contact. The product also is an ovicide that sterilizes adults and prevents eggs from hatching.
