Abamectin

Abamectin is a mixture of avermectins containing more than 80% avermectin B1a and less than 20% avermectin B1b . These two components, B1a and B1b have very similar biological and toxicological properties. The avermectins are insecticidal or anthelmintic compounds derived from the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis. Abamectin is a natural fermentation product of this bacterium. Abamectin is used to control insect and mite pests of a range of agronomic, fruit, vegetable and ornamental crops, and it is used by homeowners for control of fire ants. more...

Crop Protection 2005
From American Vegetable Grower, 4/1/05

AVG highlights the latest insect control products and label changes.

ARVESTA CORP.

www.arvesta.com

* Arvesta Corp.'s chloropicrin soil fumigant product is registered in California. The product is used as a fungicide and a nematicide for the control of soilborne pests and diseases such as wireworms, nematodes, Pythium, Phytophthora, Fusarium, and Verticillium in various crops. In addition to California, the product is registered for use in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, and Washington.

* Kanemite 15SC (acequinocyl) miticide is registered to control spider mites in strawberries. The product provides fast knockdown and excellent residual activity while leaving most predacious mites and beneficial insects unharmed.

CEREXAGRI

www.cerexagri.com

* Assail (acetamiprid) from Cerexagri Inc. is registered in New York state for use on leafy and fruiting vegetables and cole crops.

CROMPTON CROP PROTECTION

www.cromptoncorp.com

* Crompton Crop Protection's Acramite (bifenazate) miticide received registration in California for use on cucurbits and fruiting vegetables.

* Floramite SC (bifenazate) miticide previously labeled for control of mite pests on ornamental plants can be used on greenhouse-grown tomatoes on varieties greater than 1 inch in diameter when mature. Floramite SC is a selective, long-lasting miticide with novel chemistry and an unique mode of action. It provides knockdown of spider mites in all life stages in three days and maintains residual control for up to 28 days.
