Alora Johnson-Self, APSA, passed away on May 25, 2004 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland, OR, at age 72 after a long illness. An active photographer for many years, Alora joined PSA in 1984 receiving her Associateship in 1999 at the Toronto PSA conference.
She was chairperson of the Columbia Council of Camera Clubs (CCCC) in the Pacific Northwest from 1999-2001 as well as being CCCC convention program director for many years. She was awarded the Council's most presitigious Maxine Van Hoy Award in 1995 for her service. She was a member of the Infinity Photo Arts Club in Beaverton, OR, the King City Camera Club; and PSA Cascade Chapter 23. She was known in the area for her photography of local Indian tribes and for her short programs based on her Indian photography.
At the time of her death, she and husband George Self were Region Directors for Region 23.
Alora was an accomplished actress and was a member of several regional dramatic companies in the northeastern United States including the Pfizer Players where she was named best supporting actress in the stage play "Bye Bye Birdie" in 1971. She graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in New London, CT, and attended William and Mary College in Virginia.
She is survived by husband George Self of Beaverton, OR, son James and daughter-in-law Gail, and grandson Jeffrey of Townsend, MA.
