Australia's Qantas Airways has said it plans to commit to a new consolidated facility for the maintenance of Rolls-Royce RB211 aircraft engines.
The airline said that the Sydney facility is an option after it made an extensive review of Australian and offshore options.
Geoff Dixon, CEO of Qantas, said that the finalisation of the facility will ensure a strong future for Rolls-Royce jet engine maintenance services in Australia.
According to Dixon, Qantas would initially commit AUD7.6m in additional capital for upgrading and consolidating current facilities, with a further AUD12m within 12 months, provided the facility reaches the necessary productivity figures set by the company.
