Ceftriaxone (trade name Rocephin®) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Ceftriaxone is frequently used in combination with azithromycin for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia. Ceftriaxone can be used to cover gram-positive organisms, but this drug does not cover Staphylococcus Aureus. For this organism, nafcillin is best to use.
